What Is Indirect Wealth?
The essence of Indirect Wealth is: the “I control” relationship between the Day Master and a Heavenly Stem of the same polarity.
“I control” means that the Five Element attribute of this Heavenly Stem is controlled by the Day Master. “Same polarity” means that this Heavenly Stem has the same yin-yang quality as the Day Master.
Simply put:
Indirect Wealth = what I control + same polarity.
For example, if the Day Master is Jia Wood, which is Yang Wood, Jia Wood controls Wu Earth, which is Yang Earth. Because they share the same yin-yang polarity, Wu Earth is the Indirect Wealth of Jia Wood.
Indirect Wealth is the Five Element controlled by the Day Master with the same yin-yang polarity. Therefore, it represents resources that the Day Master can “manage” or “control” — but unlike Direct Wealth, these resources are not stable or fully predictable. Indirect Wealth is more like “wealth shared among many people,” a floating and ownerless type of wealth.

Indirect Wealth may appear in the Heavenly Stems of the Year, Month, or Hour Pillars, and it may also come from the Heavenly Stems hidden inside the Earthly Branches, known as Hidden Stems.
What Does Indirect Wealth Represent?
The core image of Indirect Wealth is “mobile and unexpected wealth.” In life terms, it represents several major areas.
1. Wealth from secondary or unconventional work
Direct Wealth represents wealth obtained through proper professions and stable channels. Indirect Wealth represents wealth obtained through part-time work, side businesses, speculation, investment, and other more flexible methods. The way Indirect Wealth seeks wealth is more flexible and riskier than Direct Wealth, but the potential return may also be greater.
2. Unexpected gains and windfall wealth
Indirect Wealth includes unexpected gains and wealth obtained without direct labor, such as bonuses, lottery-like winnings, stock returns, foreign exchange gains, and other floating assets. However, Indirect Wealth is not the same as windfall wealth. Windfall wealth is only the part of Indirect Wealth that contains unexpected luck. The scope of Indirect Wealth is broader than windfall wealth.
3. Father in a male chart and mother-in-law in a female chart
In the Six Relatives system, Indirect Wealth represents the father in a male chart and the mother-in-law in a female chart. When Indirect Wealth appears in the Year Pillar, it is often related to the condition of the father. If Indirect Wealth in the Year Stem is strong and favorable, it may indicate that the father is long-lived and capable.

Is Indirect Wealth better than Direct Wealth?
Not necessarily. Indirect Wealth may bring larger wealth opportunities, but it is less stable and less continuous than Direct Wealth. Direct Wealth is the “source that nourishes life,” while Indirect Wealth is an added layer of opportunity. Each has its own strengths, and they cannot be simply ranked as better or worse.
Is stronger Indirect Wealth always better?
