What Is Wealth Energy in BaZi?
Wealth Energy in BaZi is the energy controlled by the Day Master. This article explains how Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth form through Five Element control and yin-yang polarity, and how Wealth relates to money, resources, execution, management, business, material pursuit, and the ability to carry wealth in a chart.
Wealth Energy is “what I control” — the Five Element energy controlled by the Day Master. In the Ten Gods system, it represents wealth, resources, material matters, control, and practical interests. Wealth Energy is divided into two types: Direct Wealth, which has the opposite yin-yang polarity from the Day Master and represents stable income sources and regular wealth; and Indirect Wealth, which has the same yin-yang polarity as the Day Master and represents fluid wealth, investment, and unconventional income. Wealth is an important dimension in a BaZi chart for understanding how a person obtains and manages resources.
How Is Wealth Energy Formed?
In BaZi theory, Wealth Energy is formed through this logic: using the Day Master as the center, any Five Element controlled by the Day Master becomes the Day Master’s Wealth.
There are two steps to identifying Wealth.
Step one: look at the Five Element controlling relationship
The controlling cycle of the Five Elements is:
Wood → Earth → Water → Fire → Metal → Wood
Within this cycle:
- Wood controls Earth, so for a Wood Day Master, Earth is Wealth.
- Fire controls Metal, so for a Fire Day Master, Metal is Wealth.
- Earth controls Water, so for an Earth Day Master, Water is Wealth.
- Metal controls Wood, so for a Metal Day Master, Wood is Wealth.
- Water controls Fire, so for a Water Day Master, Fire is Wealth.
Step two: divide by yin and yang
After identifying the element that is “controlled by me,” we then look at the yin-yang relationship between that element and the Day Master:

For example, if the Day Master is Jia Wood, which is Yang Wood:

- Wu Earth, which is Yang Earth, is controlled by Jia Wood, which is Yang Wood — same polarity → Indirect Wealth
In a BaZi chart, Wealth does not only come from visible Heavenly Stems. It can also come from the Hidden Stems inside the Earthly Branches. The Heavenly Stems of the Year, Month, and Hour Pillars, as well as the Hidden Stems inside each Earthly Branch, can all become Wealth if their Five Element belongs to the element controlled by the Day Master.
What Does Wealth Energy Represent?
The core image of Wealth Energy is resources and control. In life terms, it represents several major areas.
1. Wealth and material resources
The most basic meaning of Wealth is wealth itself — including money, assets, and material resources. Direct Wealth represents stable and continuous sources of wealth, such as salary and fixed income. Indirect Wealth represents fluid and unconventional sources of wealth, such as investment, side income, and unexpected money.
2. Control and execution
Wealth is the Five Element controlled by the Day Master, so it represents a person’s ability to control external resources. People with strong Wealth often have strong execution and management ability, and are good at turning resources and opportunities into practical benefits.
3. Practical interests and material pursuit
Wealth represents attention to practical interests. It reflects a person’s attitude toward the material world — whether they are good at obtaining resources, whether they value practical returns, and whether they have the ability to operate and manage.
4. Career and business
In career matters, Wealth is connected with business, operation, and financial management. Direct Wealth leans toward stable careers and income, while Indirect Wealth leans toward investment, trade, and capital movement.
Direct Wealth vs. Indirect Wealth: Two Types of Wealth
Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth both belong to Wealth Energy, but their sources, qualities, and methods of acquisition are clearly different.

Direct Wealth: stable and continuous wealth
Direct Wealth is wealth with the opposite yin-yang polarity from the Day Master. It represents formal and stable income sources. Direct Wealth is like a fixed salary — it may not always be large, but it is stable, predictable, and secure. People with strong Direct Wealth are often practical in work, good at accumulation, and financially steady.
Direct Wealth also represents a “proper path” view of wealth — moving step by step and receiving returns through effort.
Indirect Wealth: fluid wealth
Indirect Wealth is wealth with the same yin-yang polarity as the Day Master. It represents fluid sources of income. Indirect Wealth is like investment returns or side income — it may be unstable, but it may offer greater returns. People with strong Indirect Wealth are often good at discovering opportunities, willing to try, and have a business-oriented mind.
Indirect Wealth also represents an “opportunity” view of wealth — seizing opportunities, adapting flexibly, and obtaining returns through resource allocation.
Balance and Imbalance in Wealth Energy
When Wealth is too strong:
When Wealth is overly strong in the chart, the Day Master may need to consume a great deal of energy to obtain and manage wealth. This may show as:
- being overly focused on material pursuit while neglecting spiritual growth
- heavy financial pressure and management burden
- becoming burdened by wealth, with effort exceeding return
- in extreme cases, when Wealth is strong and the Day Master is weak, the person may experience excessive financial burden
When Wealth is too weak:
When Wealth is insufficient in the chart, the Day Master may lack effective resource acquisition ability. This may show as:
- slower financial accumulation and limited income sources
- lack of investment and business awareness
- insufficient sensitivity to the material world
- needing more practice in resource allocation and management
When Wealth is balanced:
When Wealth is neither too strong nor too weak, a person usually has a healthier balance in wealth and resource management: they can obtain wealth effectively while also managing and allocating it reasonably.
How Wealth Energy Interacts with Other Energy Groups
Output → Wealth
Output supports Wealth. Output represents talent, ideas, and expressive ability, while Wealth represents wealth and resources. This relationship reveals the path of “turning talent into value” — transforming one’s abilities, through output and service, into practical wealth. Output is the production process, while Wealth is the produced result.
In an actual chart, Output generating Wealth is a commonly favorable structure. It suggests that a person may have the ability to transform talent into practical returns.
Wealth → Authority
Wealth supports Authority, the energy that controls me. Wealth represents resources and wealth, while Authority represents status, power, and social responsibility. This relationship shows a certain logic: wealth can be transformed into social status and influence. Once a person has resources, they can further develop their career and take on greater social responsibility. But this also means that the output of Wealth consumes the Day Master’s resource reserves.

Is Direct Wealth good and Indirect Wealth bad?
No. Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth are simply two different types of wealth sources, each with its own suitable context. Direct Wealth is suited to stages that require stable income, while Indirect Wealth is suited to areas that require capital movement. The two can complement each other.
Does stronger Wealth mean more money?
Not necessarily. Strong Wealth also requires the Day Master to have enough strength to “carry Wealth.” If the Day Master is too weak, excessive Wealth may become a burden instead. The ability to obtain wealth depends on the balance between the Day Master and Wealth.
Does Indirect Wealth only mean unexpected money?
Indirect Wealth can represent unexpected money, but its meaning goes far beyond that. The core meaning of Indirect Wealth is fluid and unconventional wealth, including investment returns, business profits, side income, and other forms of mobile resources.
